Il est entouré au nord par le massif de la Jungfrau, au sud par la vallée du Rhône avec laquelle le glacier communique via les gorges de la Massa, à l'est par le lac Märjelen et à l'ouest par l'Aletschhorn. Il est le plus long glacier des Alpes avec une longueur de près de 23 km. Le Comité du patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO a inscrit en 2001 le glacier d'Aletsch sur la liste du patrimoine mondial en Europe.

Switzerland. Valais. The glacier of Aletsch is the biggest glacier of the Alps, situated in the South of Switzerland in the canton of Valais. It is surrounded in the North by the massif of Jungfrau, in the South by the valley of the Rhône with which the glacier communicates via the gorges of Massa, in the East by the lake Märjelen and on the West by Aletschhorn. He is the longest glacier of the Alps with a length of about 23 km. The Committee of the UNESCO world heritage registered in 2001 the glacier of Aletsch on the list of the world heritage in Europe.
